Sometimes you feel like a nut

Precious Oldest was on the phone and we were comparing Halloween notes.

Fannie: “We ran out of candy at 9:00! And I had two HUGE bags of assorted candy! I almost resorted to handing out the Almond Joys I held back!”

Precious Oldest: “I did the same thing – took out all the Almond Joys!”

Fannie: “Well of course! Kids don’t like coconut!

Or nuts!

It’s really for the best.”

Precious Oldest: “But …I bought a huge bag of candy that included Almond Joys ON PURPOSE….”

Fannie: “So what?”

Precious Oldest: “SO, I bought candy I had no intention of passing out to the kids! OMG - I am turning into my mother!”

Humph, she says that like it’s a bad thing!

Bonus

I awoke yesterday morning to our first fall day with temperatures that had dipped below freezing. On my stumble in the dark down the driveway to fetch the paper I watched my breath turn to vapor and thought of digging out the winter bedding.

I thought how nice it would be to curl up in that flannel covered, downy goodness and wallow to my hearts content.

I could picture the downy goodness, clean and fluffy.

So after my shower I trotted down to the basement to haul out what I had stored so lovingly back in May. And what, to my surprise, did I find?

Hallelujah! We'll have Halloween after all!

I Haz a Problum

In an uncharacteristic move of pre-planning and organization I bought my Halloween candy about four weeks ago.

And then I hid the candy. In a VERY safe place.

Guess what I can't find?

Care Package

Going out to Princeton on the Prairie

Seasonal socks

Something to snack on

Precious Oldest and her roommate love candy corn

To take to the kids Precious Oldest is T.A. for this semester

Two observations:

For the first time in YEARS the cashier at Target didn't ask if I wanted to "save 10%by applying for a Target credit card".

I do believe it's going to cost me more to MAIL this package than it did to purchase the items.

Happy Halloween!

When the girls were small getting them to put even a little something in their tummies pre trick or treating was a real challenge. They would be in such a frenzy to get into those costumes and hit the streets. So long ago I started serving the same thing every single year, Mac and Cheese made with "Halloween" themed pasta. They enjoyed the novelty of shaped pasta, and I figured just half a dozen forkfuls would be enough to get them through the evening.

The trick however, is finding the pasta! A couple of years one of the Boy Scout troops went around selling a year’s supply of “Theme” pasta; Christmas Trees, Flags, Pumpkins, Acorns, Bunnies, etc. Some years I’d stumble upon it at a grocery store. Or I’d get on-line and track it down. And yes, I realize that my "baby" is sixteen, but the Holiday traditions continue on in Whoville.

This year we found this at World Market:

I think in California and other western environs World Market is called “Cost Plus”. It is a great store; take a Pier One and put a liquor store in the middle! Now that’s what I call one stop shopping!

Also picked up something special for me:

A nice "Vampire" Pinot Noir.

We carved our pumpkins last night.

Here are the finished results:

Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to who carved which Jack-O-Lantern?
