I always get a little choked up watching the inauguration and the swearing in of the new president. Particularly years, like this year, where the outgoing and incoming presidents are of different political parties.
I watch, I shake my head, my eyes fill a bit with tears. "Look at us!" I shout in my head. No violence led to this moment. The people voted. The people did this. Every time.

Here here! We all should stand proud today!
I'm celebrating by attending one of the 5 "balls" tonight...well maybe not, but I can lift a glass of something and toast!
I teared up in front of my TV too. Watching history unfold is emotional for me. My oldest said something about being able to tell her kids about this. I told her that I hope her kids won't have any idea why it was such a big deal.
It's amazing what we do as a people. We take this transfer of power as so routine. As one that lives in the Washington area, my hat goes off to those millions that braved the cold to witness history.
I don't think I've ever watched before--but you're right.
