Thank God for Google

I’m not sure where my brain is these days. We’re going to a Rod Stewart concert tonight and the only song of his I could come up with was “Maggie May”. Now I’m older than dirt and Rod Stewart is older than me, so I was certain I’d heard a song or two of his back in the day. Still, “Maggie May” was IT, all I could think of.

I had to Google “Rod Stewart Songs”. Oh for the love of…..”Sailing”! “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy”! “Young Turks”! “Some Guys have All The Luck”! “Have I Told You Lately”! I think “You’re In My Heart” might have been the damn theme to my freaking Senior Prom!

Bejesus getting old sucks. I wonder how Rod is holding up.

We're Back

Well we're back and had a wonderful time. I actually feel pretty relaxed. Here's the deal about this particular re-entry:

  1. There is virtually no laundry when all we wore for eight days was either a bathing suit or a sundress. (OK, OK, the Saint wore shorts!)

  2. We got in late Saturday night, so I had all day Sunday to get household chores done before heading back to the office today.

I think it's going to be harder to catch up on all your posts while I was gone than anything else!

Overheard - Sortta

This conversation was related to me by Precious Oldest

College Friend of Precious Oldest: "I don't know if it will happen in two years, ten years or twenty years, but you WILL end up being exactly like your mother.

Precious Oldest: shaking her head slowly from side to side: "Don't I know it."

Back Down Playa Way

We leave on Saturday for a week in Playa Del Carmen.

With Precious Youngest off to college in less than a month (holyshitcrapfucksomebodyholdme!)I know our opportunities for family vacations will come further and further apart. So forgive me if you don't hear from me for awhile. I'll be spending quality time with my peeps. Dude.

Girls can be so catty

The whispers start the moment she enters. "Just who does she think she is anyway?"

She’s the one in the gaudy dress. So… inappropriate for the setting. And her almost overpowering perume? Tasteless, wouldn’t you agree?

After all, this is a simple garden party. We all look so pretty and fresh. Dressed simply, but charmingly if we do say so ourselves.

You see her there? She looks so out of place, doesn’t she see that?

Doesn’t she care?

No girls, I don’t think she does.

How in the world....

Her entrance into the world was dramatic. I will put your fussy, colicky, demanding baby stories up against mine (and throw in a spouse who traveled several nights a week, EVERY week) and I will WIN!

Then one day she sat up, looked around, and decided to be delightful. And her laugh! OMG! It started in her toes and rolled up out of her a deep and startling chortle. She could captivate an entire roomful of adults for hours as we tried to think up new ways to make her laugh!

My girl. My baby. She's messy. She's a night owl. She's creative. She's loyal. She's guarded. She's funny. She’s mine and I love her.

Happy 18th birthday Precious Youngest!

Guess What?

If you spend days on mother fucking DAYS on end writing grants you don't have time to, or even feel like, writing posts.

AND if the internets at you HOME decide to never fucking work, well then you can’t post pictures of the white trash 4th of July.

Then your blog produces some near approximation of a death rattle.

And dies. The end.

SHIT

Every one else seems to be writing full posts and such. Not me. So bullets:
    • We celebrated our TWENTY FOURTH wedding anniversary
    • We paid off the house we bought in 1996. On a twenty year note. Seven years ahead of schedule.
    • We are preparing for the annual white trash fourth of July
    • Which my parents will attend for the first time ever
    • I love my daughters
