Yesterday, just one week into the new year, I fulfilled my New Years Resolution. This is why it is important to pick CONCRETE resolutions people. The beauty lies in the one shot dealio.
Let me begin by saying why in the name of all that is holy does the eye doctor dude need as much medical/personal history as my gynecologist? How much I exercise is going to effect my eye sight how exactly? Can I drink myself blind? And what do you care what I'm taking to keep the crazy at bay?
Any way, there was a lot of baseline this and baseline that. Many, MANY pictures of my eye balls. Loads of, "What is the smallest line you can read?". Then some godforsaken pokey thing to check for glaucoma. (I was told that in the OLDEN day they used to numb your eye balls and poke them with pins! Or shoot puffs of air at them! Gah!)
So no glaucoma, retinal detachment, macular degeneration, blah, blah, blah. And eye doctor dude said I could just keep using my drug store reading glasses. BUT, I decided to get glasses for the office. A progressive lens with nothing on the top, a "middle distance correction" for the computer and a "near distance correction" for reading towards the bottom. This should eliminate me taking my cheaters on and off about a bazillion times a day, as well as my tendency to peer over the tops of said cheaters during meetings.
I anticipate these will take some getting used to. If anyone has trudged down this road before me, please advise. I? Will be resting on the laurels of the 100% success of my 2009 resolution!

Actually, some meds can affect your eyes. I wore bifocals because of a medication. Now I don't need glasses at all after discontinuing the med. I bet you could drink yourself blind if you tried hard enough.
Our doc still uses that puff of air. It is absolutely "Gah!" inducing.
Totally awesome, you are!
How much performance anxiety did you feel during the "which is better? 1...or 2?" I always feel like I'm going to fail.
Hope you got yourself some super groovy glasses!
Progressives take a bit of getting used to. I got them two years ago, but mine are actually for distance too. When I went to pick out frames for my new lenses, it was a bit challenging since I had to have the hip small ones. They recommend progressives go into larger frames... but come on, even if you're old you've got to look good (not that you're old, of course). Fortunately I found an eye clinic that made the small frames work with my prescription. It can be done.
You may find yourself tripping while walking with them on at first. It will get better.
I am in awe of your awesomeness. Way to go!
I definitely remember the puff of air.
I got progressive lenses about 6 months ago. I looooove them. I had a little nausea for a couple of days, but now no problemo. This year I'm getting them in sunglasses. I don't text while driving, but I will cop to reading texts while driving occasionally. And that print? In the words of my gal Kate is fu**all small!
My glasses are slight correction for distance and astigmatism, a different correction in each eye for close-up. Isn't it amazing what they can do?
You'll be so happy when you get used to your glasses.
I just say Cindy's comment--I have small frames too. It was no problem at Costco.
Congrats on living up to your resolution!
I've got progressives on order, which will be a nice change from my lined-bifocals.
