There are folks all over going absolutely batshit because “Lost” has a new season starting tonight. It seems they took an eight month break and people have been jonesing. I? I have never seen a single episode. I know the basic gist of the plot from all the gazillion promos. And I think they won an Emmy for season one. I just never watched.
So tell me this…is it really that good or are people willing to watch ANYTHING because of the dearth of decent television during the writers strike? Cause I’m a little desperate my ownself and might be persuaded to dive right in.

T is For Trespass. I’m reading
Motherless Brooklyn right now. After that, I have no books waiting in the wings. And
I’m going to the beach on a little trip I’ll have a bit of time on my hands in a couple of weeks. I’m looking for LIGHT reading. Shit you don’t have to think too hard about, but not inane. Oh, and must be out in paperback because
the Saint gets pissy if my bags are too heavy I try to travel light.
So anyone with sage recommendations on either topic? I yield the floor.

I've been enjoying Bill Bryson's books lately, especially A Walk in the Woods, A Sunburned Country, and the one I'm reading now that I can't remember the name of (it's about Europe). I've also got Running With Scissors waiting in the wings.
Have you read any of Jen Lancaster's books? Absolutely hilarious! I read one on the plane and the flight attendant come over to check on me and asked if I could keep it down.
For fun, easy reads I always love Mary Kay Andrews (Savannah Blues, Itty Bitty Lies). She also writes mysteries under her real name of Kathy Hogan Trocheck -- Every Crooked Nanny is one of my faves.
I also love Marian Keyes -- she's Irish. All of her books have been hilarious.
All of these should be out in paperback. Thanks for my book recommendations the other day! I've got to get something before we leave town tomorrow.
Janet Evonovich and her Stephanie Plum novels are paperback and a light read. They also make me laugh out loud and I love them. Ummmm another author I picked up recently is Diane Mott Davidson. Really easy read..lots of fun. I wasn't to sure about Diane's books and looked at them on the shelf for awhile. Then I read one and hurried over to Amazon.com to order the whole kit and caboodle. :) Hope this helps!!

Ahem...well...I'm one of those people going apeshit about Lost finally being back tonight. I've been watching it since the 1st season though, and I'm not sure how it would go over if you jumped in the middle of it.
I'll just say, I love it. It's full of twists and turns and unexpecteds, an element of the supernatural, it really keeps you guessing, and makes you go HUH? a lot. I like those kinds of shows. I'm a big Heroes fan too. Those other shows that people like so much, the CSIs, endless variations of Law & Order, etc...eh. Never got into those much.
I'm not sure if I answered your question, but I love Lost.
Have you read Comeback? I like the Stephanie Plum books too.
I've never watched 'Lost' so I probably should keep my trap shut. BUT. Two words: Gilligan's Island.
I've been addicted to Lost since season one, and I got the Freshman addicted last year. (I had a lot of explaining to do.) Here's a clue to how much I like it: I'm willing to risk sleep-deprivation to stay up past bed-time watching.
My two standard book recommendations are The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffennegger (my favorite book!)and Life of Pi by Yann Martel.
As SC said Bill Bryson is wonderful. Also The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love, by Jill Conner Browne....imagine this woman talking right to you in a gorgeous drawl, she will you make laugh, oh lordy!
